The Struggles of Gift Shopping
One of the most stressful parts of the holidays is undoubtedly gift shopping. From finding the perfect present to navigating crowded stores, it’s no wonder why so many people dread this task. But thanks to Christmas vacation memes, we can commiserate with others who feel our pain. One popular meme shows Clark Griswold from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation struggling to carry a giant tree through a crowded parking lot. The caption reads, “Me trying to find a parking spot at the mall during the holidays.”
Another meme shows a scene from Elf where Buddy is frantically wrapping gifts. The caption reads, “Me realizing I have to wrap all the gifts I bought at the last minute.” These memes remind us that we’re not alone in our struggles and that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves.
The Joys (and Frustrations) of Family Time
For many of us, the holidays mean spending time with family. While this can be a wonderful experience, it can also be challenging. Christmas vacation memes capture both the joys and frustrations of family time. One meme shows Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation in all his tacky glory, with the caption, “When you’re the only sane one in your family.” Another meme shows a woman holding a wine glass with the caption, “When your family starts arguing at the dinner table and you’re just trying to get through the meal.”
These memes remind us that family dynamics can be complicated, but that we can find humor in the absurdity of it all. They also serve as a reminder to be grateful for the people in our lives, even if they drive us crazy sometimes.
2021-Specific Themes
Of course, this year has presented its own unique challenges and quirks, and Christmas vacation memes have reflected that. One popular meme shows a picture of a Christmas tree with the caption, “2021 Christmas tree: 50% supply chain issues, 50% I don’t care anymore.”
Another meme shows a picture of a Zoom call with family, with the caption, “When your family decides to do a virtual Christmas instead of getting together in person.” These memes capture the absurdity of 2021 and remind us that we’re all in this together.
