It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly a decade since the Kobe Bryant meme face took the internet by storm. The image of the NBA legend’s scowling face has been used in countless memes and viral videos, becoming an iconic symbol of internet culture. But as time has passed, the meme has lost some of its luster. So, what happened to the Kobe Bryant meme face?

The Origins of the Meme

The Kobe Bryant meme face first appeared in 2012, during a game against the Miami Heat. Bryant was caught on camera making a particularly intense face, and it quickly caught the attention of internet users. The image was shared widely on social media, and soon people began using it to express their own emotions.

One of the earliest examples of the Kobe Bryant meme face in action was a video posted to YouTube by user Azerrz. In the video, Azerrz uses the meme to express his frustration with a video game. The video quickly went viral, and soon other creators began incorporating the meme into their own content.

The Rise of the Meme

Over the next few years, the Kobe Bryant meme face continued to gain popularity. It was used in everything from reaction videos to political memes. The image became so well-known that even people who didn’t follow sports were familiar with it.

One of the reasons the Kobe Bryant meme face was so popular was its versatility. The scowling expression could be used to convey a wide range of emotions, from anger to frustration to disbelief. It was also a recognizable symbol of determination and intensity, two qualities that were often associated with Bryant himself.

The Fall of the Meme

Despite its initial popularity, the Kobe Bryant meme face began to lose steam in the mid-2010s. As with any meme, there was a saturation point where people simply got tired of seeing it. In addition, some people began to criticize the meme for being disrespectful to Bryant and his legacy.

Another factor that contributed to the decline of the meme was the tragic death of Bryant in 2020. After his passing, many people felt that using his image in a humorous or trivial way was inappropriate. The meme still exists, but it’s no longer as widely used or celebrated as it once was.

The Legacy of the Meme

Despite its decline in popularity, the Kobe Bryant meme face will always be a part of internet culture. It’s a reminder of a time when memes were simpler and more innocent. It’s also a testament to Bryant’s impact on popular culture, both on and off the court.

Today, many people still have fond memories of the Kobe Bryant meme face. Some even continue to use it in their own content, albeit less frequently than before. Here’s what a few people had to say about the meme:

“The Kobe Bryant meme face was one of the defining memes of the early 2010s. It was everywhere you looked, and it always made me laugh.” – John, 28

“I never really understood the appeal of the Kobe Bryant meme face. To me, it always seemed like a cheap shot at a great athlete.” – Sarah, 32

“I think the Kobe Bryant meme face was a way for people to connect with each other over something silly. It didn’t matter if you were a sports fan or not; everyone could appreciate the meme.” – Alex, 25

Love it or hate it, the Kobe Bryant meme face will always be a part of internet history. It may not be as popular as it once was, but it will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who remember it fondly.
