“I understand why some people might find the meme disrespectful, but I also think it’s important to remember that Parkey is a professional athlete. He’s used to dealing with criticism and scrutiny, and I doubt a few internet memes are going to ruin his day.” – @sportsfanatic

It’s been a few years since the infamous missed field goal by Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh in the 2016 NFC Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks. But the internet never forgets, and neither do football fans.

The “Are You the Vikings Kicker?” meme has become a staple in the NFL community, often used to poke fun at kickers who miss crucial field goals or extra points. The meme features a cartoon Viking with a helmet and a caption that reads, “Are you the Vikings kicker? Because you just missed.”

The Origin Story

The meme first gained popularity on social media in the days following Walsh’s missed field goal. Fans began creating their own versions of the meme and sharing them online. It quickly became a viral sensation and has since been used countless times to mock kickers who miss game-winning kicks.

Some fans have even used the meme to poke fun at non-kicker players who make mistakes on the field. For example, a quarterback who throws an interception in the end zone might be compared to the Vikings kicker in a meme.

Responses and Comments

The “Are You the Vikings Kicker?” meme has elicited a wide range of responses from football fans. Some find it hilarious and a great way to poke fun at players who make mistakes. Others think it’s mean-spirited and unfair to kickers who have a difficult job.

One Twitter user wrote, “I love the Vikings kicker meme. It’s the perfect way to roast someone who misses a kick.” Another user responded, “As a former high school kicker, I find this meme offensive. Kicking is a tough job and it’s unfair to make fun of someone who misses a kick.”

Use in Fantasy Football

The “Are You the Vikings Kicker?” meme has also made its way into the world of fantasy football. Fantasy owners who have a kicker who misses a crucial kick might see the meme posted on their league’s message board.

One fantasy football player said, “I had the Vikings kicker on my team last year and he missed a game-winning kick. My league mates were quick to post the meme on our message board.”

Final Thoughts

Whether you love it or hate it, the “Are You the Vikings Kicker?” meme is here to stay. It’s become a part of football culture and will likely be used for years to come. As long as kickers continue to miss crucial field goals, fans will continue to use the meme to poke fun at them.

But it’s important to remember that these players are human and make mistakes. While it’s okay to have a laugh at their expense, we should also show them some empathy and understanding.
