Back in 2013, a young rapper from Chicago named Chief Keef released a single titled “Love Sosa,” which quickly became a viral hit. The song’s catchy hook and Keef’s unique style of rapping made it an instant classic, and it didn’t take long for fans to start creating memes based on the lyrics.

One of the most popular memes to come out of “Love Sosa” was the “earned it” meme, which features a still image of Keef with the caption “When you finally finish a task you’ve been putting off for a long time.” The meme took off on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, and it has since become a staple of internet culture.

The Origins of the Earned It Meme

The “earned it” meme first appeared on Twitter in late 2013, just a few months after “Love Sosa” was released. The original tweet featured a photo of Chief Keef with the caption “When you finally pass a test you thought you failed,” and it quickly went viral.

From there, the meme took on a life of its own, with people using it to express a wide range of emotions and accomplishments. Some of the most popular variations include:

• “When you finally finish a book you’ve been reading for months”
• “When you finally beat a video game that’s been kicking your ass”
• “When you finally get your degree after years of hard work”

The versatility of the meme is part of what has made it so popular. No matter what you’ve accomplished, there’s probably an “earned it” meme that can express how you’re feeling.

The Impact of the Earned It Meme

Since its creation, the “earned it” meme has become a cultural phenomenon. It has been referenced in countless articles, videos, and podcasts, and it has even been used by celebrities like Chance the Rapper and Lil Yachty.

Part of the reason for the meme’s popularity is that it taps into a universal experience. We all have tasks or goals that we’ve been putting off, and the feeling of finally completing them is incredibly satisfying. The “earned it” meme captures that feeling perfectly, and it has resonated with people all over the world.

The Future of the Earned It Meme

As with any internet meme, it’s impossible to predict how long the “earned it” meme will remain popular. However, given its longevity and widespread appeal, it seems likely that it will continue to be a beloved part of internet culture for years to come.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Chief Keef or you’ve never heard of him before, there’s no denying the impact that the “earned it” meme has had on the internet. It’s a testament to the power of social media and the way that memes can bring people together.
