The Incredibles, a beloved Pixar movie franchise, has given us many memorable moments and characters over the years. But perhaps one of the most iconic and enduring legacies of the series has been the emergence of the Incredibles meme face. You’ve likely seen it before – the stoic, deadpan expression of Mr. Incredible himself, often used to convey a sense of exasperation, frustration, or disbelief. But how did this simple image become such a cultural touchstone, and what does its continued popularity say about the world of memes and internet culture more broadly?

The Origins of the Incredibles Meme Face

The Incredibles meme face first emerged in 2004, following the release of the original movie. In one scene, Mr. Incredible is interrogated by a government agent who asks him to reveal the location of his superhero suit. Mr. Incredible responds with a deadpan “Where’s my super suit?” before erupting into a frustrated rant. It’s this moment that has been immortalized in the meme face, with the image of Mr. Incredible looking stoic and unimpressed while uttering his iconic line.

At first, the meme face was used in a relatively limited context – mostly on message boards and forums frequented by fans of the movie. But as the popularity of the Incredibles franchise grew, so too did the reach of the meme face. It began to be used in other contexts, often as a way to express frustration or disbelief in response to a particular situation or comment.

The Evolution of the Incredibles Meme Face

Over time, the Incredibles meme face has taken on a life of its own. It’s been remixed and reimagined in countless ways, with users applying the image to a wide range of situations and scenarios. Some of the most popular variations include:

The “Where’s My Super Suit?” Remix

As the original source of the meme face, it’s no surprise that the “Where’s My Super Suit?” remix remains one of the most popular variations. In these memes, Mr. Incredible’s line is often paired with other characters or situations, with the image of his face used to convey a sense of disbelief or frustration at the situation at hand.

The “I Am Once Again Asking” Remix

In 2020, Bernie Sanders famously used the phrase “I am once again asking” in a campaign ad, and the internet wasted no time in remixing the Incredibles meme face to fit the new context. In these memes, Mr. Incredible’s face is used to convey Sanders’ sense of exasperation and frustration at the challenges of running for office.

The “Ight, Imma Head Out” Remix

The “Ight, Imma Head Out” meme features an image of Spongebob Squarepants getting up from his chair and walking out of a room, often paired with a caption indicating that the user is done with a particular conversation or situation. In some variations, the Incredibles meme face is used instead of Spongebob, with Mr. Incredible’s expression conveying a similar sense of finality and resignation.

The Impact of the Incredibles Meme Face

So why has the Incredibles meme face endured for so long, and why does it continue to resonate with so many people? One possible explanation is that the face itself is incredibly versatile – it can be used to convey a wide range of emotions and reactions, from frustration to resignation to amusement. Additionally, the Incredibles franchise itself has remained popular over the years, with new movies and merchandise keeping it in the public eye.

But perhaps the biggest reason for the meme face’s continued popularity is the fact that it’s become a cultural touchstone in its own right. Much like other iconic memes and catchphrases (think “I can haz cheezburger?” or “All your base are belong to us”), the Incredibles meme face has transcended its original source material to become a recognizable and beloved part of internet culture.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two decades since the release of Disney Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles.’ Since then, the movie has become a beloved classic, spawning sequels, merchandise, and even a meme or two. One of the most popular memes to come out of the movie is the “soap is soap” meme, which has taken the internet by storm in recent years.

What is the “Soap is Soap” Meme?

For those who may not be familiar with the meme, it originates from a scene in the original ‘Incredibles’ movie, where Mr. Incredible (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) is trying to convince his friend Frozone (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) to join him on a superhero mission. Frozone, however, is hesitant because he has promised his wife that he would go grocery shopping with her.

During the conversation, Mr. Incredible suggests that Frozone could simply buy some soap while at the grocery store. Frozone responds with, “Soap is soap, Jerry. You can’t be buying no fancy stuff.” The scene is meant to be a comical moment, but it has since taken on a life of its own in the form of a meme.

How Did the Meme Gain Popularity?

The “soap is soap” meme gained popularity in 2020, when people around the world were forced to stay at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With more time on their hands, people turned to social media to share funny content and connect with others. The “soap is soap” meme quickly caught on, with countless people sharing their own variations of the meme on platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram.

Many people found the meme relatable, as it reflected the reality of grocery shopping during a pandemic. With shortages of certain items and people rushing to stock up on essentials, buying “fancy” soap was not a top priority for many.

Responses to the Meme

As with any meme, the “soap is soap” meme has garnered mixed reactions from people. Some find it hilarious and have embraced it as a way to lighten the mood during a difficult time. Others, however, have criticized the meme for being overly simplistic or for promoting a “cheap” mentality when it comes to consumer goods.

One Twitter user wrote, “The ‘soap is soap’ mentality is why so many people are content with mediocrity. Don’t settle for the bare minimum.” Another user responded, “It’s just a meme, dude. Relax.”

The Importance of Soap

While the “soap is soap” meme may be amusing, it’s important to remember the importance of soap in our daily lives. Soap is a critical tool in preventing the spread of disease and illness, and it’s essential that we use it properly and regularly.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), washing your hands with soap and water is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Soap works by breaking down the outer layer of the virus or bacteria, making it easier to wash away.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the “soap is soap” meme may have started as a simple joke in a beloved movie, but it has since taken on a life of its own. While some may criticize the meme for promoting a “cheap” mentality, others find it relatable and humorous.
