It’s hard not to recognize the iconic image of a lazy egg with a butt crack, also known as Gudetama. This egg character has taken the internet by storm, appearing in memes, merchandise, and even theme parks. But how did Gudetama become such a popular meme? And what’s next for this beloved character?

The Origin Story of Gudetama

Gudetama was created by Sanrio, the same company behind Hello Kitty, in 2013. The character is a personification of a boiled egg who is unmotivated and lacks enthusiasm for life. Gudetama’s name is a play on the Japanese words “gude gude,” which means lazy, and “tamago,” which means egg.

Although Gudetama was initially created as a character for merchandise, it quickly gained popularity on the internet. Gudetama’s relatable and humorous personality resonated with people, and soon the character was appearing in memes and fan art.

The Popularity of Gudetama Memes

One of the reasons for Gudetama’s popularity is its versatility as a meme. The character’s facial expressions and body language can convey a range of emotions, from sadness to indifference to disgust. This has made Gudetama a popular subject for memes about procrastination, depression, and other relatable topics.

Many people have also found comfort in Gudetama’s lazy and apathetic personality. In a world where productivity and success are often emphasized, Gudetama is a reminder that it’s okay to take a break and just be lazy sometimes.

The Merchandising Empire of Gudetama

Gudetama’s popularity has also led to a massive merchandising empire. Fans can buy plush toys, clothing, stationery, and even kitchen appliances featuring the lazy egg. Gudetama cafes have opened in Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, where customers can enjoy food and drinks inspired by the character.

One fan, Sarah, says, “I have a Gudetama plushie and it’s my favorite thing to cuddle with when I’m feeling down. It always makes me smile and reminds me to take it easy sometimes.”

The Future of Gudetama

With its continued popularity, it’s unlikely that Gudetama will disappear anytime soon. Sanrio continues to release new merchandise featuring the character, and Gudetama has even made appearances in video games and animated series.

As for the future of Gudetama memes, it’s hard to predict what’s next. However, one thing is certain: Gudetama will continue to be a beloved and relatable character for many people.
