It’s been almost a decade since the first Ikea furniture assembly meme hit the internet, and yet the trend is still going strong. From Twitter to Instagram to TikTok, people are still sharing their struggles and triumphs when it comes to putting together the iconic Swedish furniture.

For those who haven’t seen the memes, they typically involve a series of images or videos documenting the process of assembling an Ikea piece. The images often show a jumbled mess of parts, confused facial expressions, and the end result – either a perfectly assembled piece of furniture or a complete disaster.

The Birth of the Ikea Furniture Assembly Meme

The trend started in the early 2010s, when social media was becoming more popular and Ikea furniture was still a beloved staple in many homes. The memes quickly took off, with people sharing their own experiences and relating to the struggles of others.

One of the most popular memes of the time was the “Ikea Monkey” meme, which showed a monkey wearing a shearling coat wandering around an Ikea store in Canada. The image was hilarious on its own, but when someone added the caption “Ikea furniture assembly level: expert,” it became an instant classic.

The Enduring Appeal of the Ikea Furniture Assembly Meme

So why do people still love sharing their Ikea assembly experiences online? For one, it’s a relatable experience that many people have gone through. Anyone who has ever tried to put together an Ikea piece knows the frustration of deciphering the instructions and trying to fit together seemingly incompatible pieces.

But beyond that, the memes are also a way for people to connect and share a laugh. In a world that can often feel isolating and stressful, seeing someone else’s Ikea assembly fail can be a welcome distraction.

The Future of the Ikea Furniture Assembly Meme

While it’s impossible to predict exactly where internet trends will go, it’s safe to say that the Ikea furniture assembly meme isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. As long as people continue to buy Ikea furniture and struggle to put it together, there will be a market for these memes.

But as the years go on, it’s possible that the memes will evolve and change. Perhaps we’ll see more elaborate videos, or memes that incorporate augmented reality or other new technologies. Only time will tell.
