The Ole Out Saga
It wouldn’t be a Man Utd season without some drama surrounding the manager. And in 2022, the “Ole Out” campaign reached new heights (or depths, depending on your perspective). Fans took to social media to share hilarious memes about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching abilities, often featuring comical images of the Norwegian with captions such as “I’m not saying Ole is a bad coach, but even Phil Jones can see through his tactics.”
One of the funniest Ole Out memes came after a particularly embarrassing loss to Liverpool, where fans photoshopped Solskjaer’s head onto a cartoon character jumping off a cliff with the caption “Ole leading us to the top of the league.”
The Ronaldo Effect
When Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford in 2022, fans were understandably excited. But with great expectations comes great responsibility, and some fans were quick to poke fun at Ronaldo’s age and perceived lack of impact on the team. One popular meme featured a picture of Ronaldo with the caption “I didn’t come back to Man Utd to win trophies, I came back to collect my pension.”
But despite the jokes, Ronaldo proved his worth on the pitch, scoring crucial goals and helping the team to some important victories. And fans quickly changed their tune, with memes now featuring Ronaldo as a superhero, saving the team from disaster.
The Transfer Window Fiasco
The summer transfer window of 2022 was a frustrating one for Man Utd fans, with the team failing to secure some of their top targets. And fans vented their frustrations in the form of memes, often featuring images of the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward as the target of their wrath.
One particularly funny meme featured an image of Woodward with the caption “I’m not saying Ed Woodward is bad at his job, but he couldn’t even sign a pre-contract agreement with a pen and paper.”
