It’s been almost a decade since the infamous “Ligma” meme took the internet by storm. The term, which originated from a popular Twitch streamer’s prank, went viral and became a cultural phenomenon. But as with all things, memes come and go. So what other similar meme phenomena have emerged since then? Let’s take a look.
Table of Contents
The Rise of “Sugma”
Similar to Ligma, Sugma is a term that originated from a prank. It was first popularized by YouTuber PewDiePie in 2018, who claimed that Sugma was a serious illness. The term quickly went viral, with many people falling for the joke and searching for information about the supposed disease.
However, unlike Ligma, Sugma didn’t have the same staying power. While it was popular for a brief moment in time, it quickly faded away and hasn’t been as widely used since then.
The Emergence of “Bofa”
Bofa is another meme term that emerged in the wake of Ligma’s popularity. It stands for “both of” and is often used in the context of a joke or prank. For example, someone might ask “Do you know Bofa?” to which the response would be “Bofa deez nuts!”
While Bofa isn’t as widespread as Ligma, it still has a dedicated following and can be found on various social media platforms.
People’s Responses to These Memes
So what do people think about these meme phenomena? Some find them hilarious and enjoy the way they bring people together through shared humor. Others, however, feel that they’re immature and contribute to the dumbing down of internet culture.
One Reddit user commented, “I think these memes are just a way to show that we can still find humor in the ridiculous. It’s all in good fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.”
Another user had a slightly different take, stating, “I think these memes are juvenile and contribute to the dumbing down of online discourse. We should strive for more intelligent humor.”
The Future of Memes
As for what the future holds for memes, it’s hard to say. With the internet constantly evolving and new trends emerging all the time, it’s likely that we’ll see many more meme phenomena in the years to come. Whether they’ll have the same staying power as Ligma, however, remains to be seen.
One thing is for sure though – memes will continue to be a part of online culture for the foreseeable future. So whether you love them or hate them, it’s best to embrace the humor and enjoy the ride.
