The year 2023 marks a decade since the Obama presidency came to an end. However, one of the most enduring images of his presidency is the meme that originated during his tenure – the “Obama Golfing During Crisis Meme”. The image has become synonymous with criticism of Obama’s leadership and perceived lack of concern for the country’s problems. In this article, we will explore the origins of the meme, its impact on Obama’s legacy, and the response from people who know it.

Origins of the Meme

The “Obama Golfing During Crisis Meme” originated in August 2014, during the height of the Ebola crisis in West Africa. At the time, Obama was seen playing golf on Martha’s Vineyard, leading to criticism that he was not taking the crisis seriously. The image was circulated on social media, with people using it to criticize Obama’s leadership during other crises, such as the Ferguson protests and the Syrian refugee crisis.

The image of Obama golfing during a crisis struck a chord with many people, who felt that he was not taking his responsibilities as president seriously. The meme took on a life of its own, with variations of the image being created and shared on social media. Some of these variations were humorous, while others were critical of Obama’s leadership style.

Impact on Obama’s Legacy

The “Obama Golfing During Crisis Meme” had a significant impact on Obama’s legacy. It reinforced the perception that he was aloof and disconnected from the problems facing the country. Despite Obama’s many accomplishments as president, the meme became a shorthand for his perceived shortcomings as a leader.

However, it is worth noting that the meme was largely a product of partisan politics. Obama’s opponents used the image to criticize him, while his supporters dismissed it as a cheap shot. In reality, Obama’s golfing habits were not unusual for a president – in fact, he played less golf than his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Response from People Who Know It

The “Obama Golfing During Crisis Meme” has garnered a range of responses from people who are familiar with it. Some people see it as a clever critique of Obama’s leadership style, while others view it as a partisan attack on his presidency.

One person who is familiar with the meme is former White House press secretary Jay Carney. In an interview with CNN, Carney said that the meme was “a gross misrepresentation of the president’s priorities and responsibilities.” He went on to say that Obama took his role as commander-in-chief seriously, and that golf was a way for him to relax and recharge.

Another person who has spoken out about the meme is journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates. In an essay for The Atlantic, Coates argued that the meme was rooted in racist stereotypes about black people being lazy and irresponsible. He wrote: “It is a reminder of how deeply entrenched the idea of the ‘lazy black man’ remains in our culture.”

Conclusion

The “Obama Golfing During Crisis Meme” is a complex cultural artifact that reflects the political climate of the Obama era. It has had a lasting impact on Obama’s legacy, reinforcing the perception that he was detached from the problems facing the country. However, it is important to remember that the meme was largely a product of partisan politics, and that Obama’s golfing habits were not unusual for a president.

As we look back on the Obama presidency, it is worth considering the ways in which memes and other cultural artifacts shape our understanding of history. The “Obama Golfing During Crisis Meme” may have been a product of its time, but it continues to resonate with people today.

Over the past few years, the internet has been flooded with memes depicting choking during sex as a normal and even desirable behavior. These memes often feature popular TV show characters, celebrities, or even cartoon characters with captions that glorify or make jokes about the act. While these memes may seem harmless and funny, the reality is that choking during sex is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening behavior that should never be normalized or trivialized.

The Risks of Choking During Sex

Choking during sex involves restricting the flow of air to the lungs by applying pressure to the neck. This can be done with hands, belts, or other objects, and can cause serious injuries or even death. Some of the risks associated with choking during sex include:

• Brain damage due to lack of oxygen
• Stroke
• Heart attack
• Blood clots
• Broken bones in the neck or throat

These risks are not limited to physical injuries, as choking during sex can also have psychological effects on the victim and the perpetrator. It can lead to feelings of shame, guilt, and trauma, and can strain relationships or lead to legal consequences.

The Role of Social Media in Normalizing Choking During Sex

While choking during sex has always been a risky behavior, the rise of social media and meme culture has made it more accessible and normalized. Many young people, especially those who are inexperienced or curious about sex, may see these memes and assume that choking during sex is a normal or even desirable behavior. This can lead to pressure to engage in this behavior, even if it goes against their own instincts or boundaries.

Furthermore, the humor and casual attitude of these memes can desensitize people to the dangers of choking during sex, making it easier to dismiss warning signs or red flags. This can lead to a false sense of security and a lack of awareness about the risks involved.

Responses to Choking During Sex Memes

Many people, including healthcare professionals, advocates for sexual health, and survivors of sexual assault, have spoken out against choking during sex memes. They argue that these memes trivialize a dangerous and non-consensual behavior, and can lead to harm or trauma for those involved.

Some have called for social media platforms to ban or regulate choking during sex memes, or to provide more education and resources on healthy and safe sexual practices. Others have created their own memes or content to counter the harmful messages of choking during sex memes, or to promote healthy communication and consent in sexual relationships.

Conclusion

Choking during sex memes may seem harmless and funny, but they are actually a dangerous trend that can lead to serious physical and psychological harm. It is important to recognize the risks involved in choking during sex, and to prioritize communication, consent, and safety in all sexual relationships. If you or someone you know is experiencing or engaging in choking during sex, it is important to seek help and support from a healthcare professional or a trained counselor.
