What is Daylight Savings Time?
Before we dive into the memes, let’s first refresh our memories on what daylight savings time actually is. Daylight savings time is the practice of setting the clock forward by one hour in the spring and back one hour in the fall to make better use of natural daylight. The idea was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1784, but it wasn’t until World War I that many countries began to adopt the practice as a way to conserve energy.
The Dreaded Time Change
Despite the potential benefits of daylight savings time, many people dread the time change, especially when it comes to “falling back” in November. The thought of losing an hour of daylight in the evening and having to wake up an hour earlier can be a real downer for some.
One popular meme that perfectly captures this sentiment features a picture of a grumpy cat with the caption “When you realize you’re about to fall back an hour and lose even more daylight.” The image has been shared thousands of times on social media and continues to be a favorite among those who dread the end of daylight savings time.
More Sleep or More Problems?
While gaining an extra hour of sleep may sound like a dream come true for some, others argue that the time change can actually disrupt sleep patterns and lead to grogginess and fatigue. This argument is humorously illustrated in a popular meme featuring a picture of a sleepy baby with the caption “When you realize you’ll get an extra hour of sleep, but your body clock is still going to wake you up at the usual time.”
Another meme that pokes fun at the potential sleep disruptions caused by daylight savings time features a picture of a person with a crazed look on their face and the caption “When you wake up at 3am after the time change and can’t fall back asleep.”
It’s 5pm Somewhere
One of the biggest complaints about the end of daylight savings time is the fact that it gets dark so early in the evening. This can be especially frustrating for those who work late and don’t get off until after sunset. However, some people choose to make the best of the situation by embracing the fact that it’s always 5pm somewhere.
One popular meme that celebrates this sentiment features a picture of a person sipping a cocktail with the caption “When it’s 5pm, but it’s dark outside.”
The Bottom Line
While daylight savings time may have its pros and cons, there’s no denying that it provides plenty of fodder for hilarious memes and internet humor. Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that falling back an hour provides plenty of opportunities for laughter and lightheartedness.
