Back in 2016, the world witnessed a historic boxing match between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan. While the fight itself was memorable, what really captured the attention of the internet were the hilarious memes that came out of it. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of the funniest Canelo vs Khan memes.

The Build-Up
Before the fight even took place, the internet was buzzing with anticipation. Canelo was already known as a formidable opponent, and Khan’s decision to move up two weight classes to challenge him was met with skepticism by many. The memes started pouring in, with many poking fun at Khan’s size disadvantage and questioning his decision to take on such a tough opponent.
“Khan vs Canelo? Might as well be David vs Goliath,” one Twitter user quipped.
The Fight
When the night of the fight arrived, the memes only intensified. As expected, Canelo came out on top with a devastating knockout in the sixth round. But it wasn’t the result of the fight that people were talking about – it was Khan’s comically short-lived effort to win.
“Khan’s strategy was to come in, take a few punches, and then collapse. Brilliant,” one Reddit user joked.
The Aftermath
Even after the fight was over, the memes continued to flood social media. Some focused on Khan’s knockout, while others poked fun at Canelo’s post-fight celebration. One particularly popular meme featured a side-by-side comparison of Canelo and Khan, with the caption “When you show up to the party dressed inappropriately.”
Despite the lighthearted nature of the memes, some fans of both fighters felt that they were disrespectful. Khan himself even addressed the issue, saying in an interview with Sky Sports, “It’s not nice, but it’s part and parcel of the game.”
The Legacy
While the Canelo vs Khan fight may have faded from the public’s memory, the memes it spawned continue to circulate on social media to this day. For many, they serve as a reminder of the internet’s ability to find humor in even the most serious of situations.
“I still laugh at some of these memes years later,” one Twitter user commented. “It just goes to show how creative people can be.”
The Takeaway
The Canelo vs Khan memes may have been silly, but they highlighted the power of social media to bring people together and create something truly memorable. Whether you’re a boxing fan or not, it’s hard not to appreciate the humor and creativity that went into these internet gems.
