2021 has been a wild year for memes. From the Bernie Sanders inauguration meme to the sea shanty trend, the internet has been flooded with new and hilarious content. But where do all these memes come from? Many of them start with a blank meme template, which is then filled in with text and images to create the final product. In this article, we will explore some of the most popular blank meme templates of 2021 and how they have been used.
Table of Contents
The Drake Hotline Bling Template
The Drake Hotline Bling meme has been around for a few years now, but it shows no signs of slowing down. The blank template features Drake dancing in front of a white background, and has been used to express a wide range of emotions. One popular variation of this meme is the “When you…” format, where the top image shows a situation and the bottom image shows Drake’s reaction. For example, “When you finally finish a difficult project” with a happy top image and Drake’s dancing bottom image.
According to Reddit user u/DracoFelis, “The Drake Hotline Bling meme is great because it’s so versatile. You can use it to express almost any feeling or situation, and it always gets a laugh.”
The Distracted Boyfriend Template
The Distracted Boyfriend meme has also been around for a few years, but it saw a resurgence in popularity in 2021. The blank template features a man walking with his girlfriend, but looking back at another woman walking by. This meme has been used to represent situations where someone is tempted by something else, or when they are disloyal. For example, “When you’re supposed to be studying, but you keep checking your phone” with the girlfriend as the study material and the other woman as the distraction.
Twitter user @memesdailyx says, “The Distracted Boyfriend meme is relatable because we’ve all been in situations where we’ve been tempted by something else. It’s a funny way to express that feeling.”
The Blinking White Guy Template
The Blinking White Guy meme started as a video clip of a man blinking in surprise, but has since been turned into a blank template. This meme has been used to express shock or disbelief at something, or to represent a sudden realization. For example, “When you realize it’s Monday tomorrow” with the top image showing a happy person and the bottom image showing the Blinking White Guy in shock.
Instagram user @funnymemesdaily says, “The Blinking White Guy meme is great because it’s so relatable. We’ve all had those moments where we’re caught off guard or suddenly realize something, and this meme captures that perfectly.”
The Woman Yelling at a Cat Template
The Woman Yelling at a Cat meme features two images side by side: one of a woman yelling and pointing, and one of a cat sitting at a table. The meme has been used to represent arguments or disagreements, with the top image representing the person making their point and the bottom image representing the person listening. For example, “When you’re trying to explain something to your boss, but they just don’t get it” with the woman as the employee and the cat as the boss.
Reddit user u/memelord420 says, “The Woman Yelling at a Cat meme is great because it’s a funny way to represent arguments. It’s also relatable because we’ve all been in situations where we feel like we’re not being heard.”
The Mocking SpongeBob Template
The Mocking SpongeBob meme is a little different from the other templates on this list. Instead of featuring two images, it features one image of SpongeBob with a mocking expression and alternating capital and lowercase letters above his head. This meme has been used to mock or make fun of someone, or to represent a sarcastic response. For example, “When your friend says they’re going to start a new diet… again” with the top text saying “I’m sure that will work” and the bottom text saying “i’M sUrE tHaT wIlL wOrK.”
Facebook user @funnymemez4u says, “The Mocking SpongeBob meme is great because it’s such a simple concept, but it’s so effective. It’s a funny way to mock someone without being too mean.”
Conclusion
Blank meme templates are a great way to express yourself online. They allow you to take a pre-existing image and make it your own, creating something new and hilarious in the process. Whether you’re using the Drake Hotline Bling template to express your excitement or the Distracted Boyfriend template to represent your distractions, there’s a meme template out there for everyone.
