The Birth of Dennis Memes
It all started back in 2005 when It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia first premiered on FX. Dennis Reynolds, played by Glenn Howerton, quickly became one of the standout characters of the show. His narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies made him both hilarious and terrifying at the same time. Fans of the show began to create memes featuring Dennis and his various quotes and facial expressions.
One of the earliest examples of a Dennis meme is the “Implication” meme. This meme features a still of Dennis from the season 2 episode “The Gang Goes Jihad” where he explains his plan to lure women onto a boat using the “implication” that something bad might happen if they don’t comply. This meme has been used to mock everything from politics to dating culture.
The Rise of Dennis as a God
As the show continued to air and gain popularity, Dennis memes only became more prevalent. One particular trend was the idea of Dennis as a god. This concept was first introduced in the season 10 episode “The Gang Group Dates” where Dennis proclaims himself a god-like figure to impress a woman. Fans of the show ran with this idea and began to create memes featuring Dennis as various gods from mythology.
The “Dennis is a Bastard Man” meme is another example of the god-like persona Dennis has taken on in the meme world. This meme features a still of Dennis from the season 3 episode “Dennis and Dee’s Mom is Dead” where he proclaims “I’m not just a man, I’m a god, a golden god!” Fans have taken this quote and turned it into a meme that shows Dennis as a powerful and egotistical deity.
The Dark Side of Dennis Memes
While many Dennis memes are lighthearted and humorous, there is also a darker side to them. Dennis Reynolds is not a good person and his actions on the show are often disturbing and violent. Some fans have taken this aspect of the character and created memes that glorify his behavior.
One such example is the “Dennis is a Serial Killer” meme. This meme features Dennis in various stills from the show with captions that suggest he is a serial killer. While this may seem harmless, it is important to remember that Dennis is a fictional character and his actions should not be celebrated.
Why We Love Dennis Memes
Despite the dark side of some Dennis memes, they continue to be extremely popular. So why do we love them so much? For one, Dennis is a complex and interesting character. He is both hilarious and terrifying, which makes for great meme material. Additionally, the show has been on the air for almost 20 years, which means there is a wealth of source material for fans to work with.
Another reason why we love Dennis memes is because they are relatable. While we may not all have the same twisted tendencies as Dennis, we can all relate to his desire for power, control, and attention. Dennis embodies the worst parts of human nature, which makes him a great character to mock and satirize.
