Since the release of the first Die Hard movie in 1988, Bruce Willis has become an icon of action movies. His portrayal of John McClane, the wisecracking cop who always seems to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, has spawned four sequels and a legion of fans. But in recent years, it’s not just the movies that have kept Willis in the public eye. It’s also the memes.

The Birth of the Bruce Willis Die Hard Meme
The Bruce Willis Die Hard meme first appeared on the internet in the early 2000s. It’s not clear who created it, but it quickly gained popularity on forums and social media. The meme takes a still image of Willis as John McClane from one of the Die Hard movies and pairs it with a caption that references the movie or something else entirely. The captions are usually clever, funny, or both, and they often poke fun at the character of John McClane.
For example, one popular Bruce Willis Die Hard meme features a picture of McClane crawling through an air vent with the caption “Come to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs…” This is a reference to a line McClane says in the first Die Hard movie, but the caption makes it sound like he’s inviting someone to a party.
The Evolution of the Bruce Willis Die Hard Meme
Over the years, the Bruce Willis Die Hard meme has evolved. It’s no longer just a simple image macro with a caption. Now, there are entire sub-genres of the meme, each with its own unique style.
The “Yippee Ki Yay” Meme
One popular sub-genre of the Bruce Willis Die Hard meme features the catchphrase “Yippee ki yay, motherf***er.” This is a line that McClane says in almost every Die Hard movie, and it’s become one of his most iconic lines. In this meme, the image of McClane is usually paired with a caption that references the phrase in some way.
The “McClane is a Badass” Meme
Another sub-genre of the Bruce Willis Die Hard meme features images of McClane doing something badass, like jumping off a building or shooting a gun. The captions usually emphasize how tough and cool McClane is.
The “McClane is an Idiot” Meme
Finally, there’s a sub-genre of the Bruce Willis Die Hard meme that pokes fun at McClane’s tendency to get into trouble. These memes usually show him in a precarious situation, like dangling from a helicopter, with a caption that makes fun of his bad luck or poor decision-making skills.
The Response to the Bruce Willis Die Hard Meme
So, what do people think of the Bruce Willis Die Hard meme? Overall, the response has been positive. Fans of the movies love the memes because they’re a fun way to celebrate the character of John McClane. Some people even credit the memes with keeping the Die Hard franchise relevant.
Others, however, are less enthusiastic about the memes. Some critics argue that they trivialize the movies and reduce them to a series of catchphrases and one-liners. They worry that people who haven’t seen the movies will only know them through the memes, and that this will give them a skewed perspective on the films.
