The Origins of the Pooping Cat Meme
Believe it or not, the pooping cat meme has been around for quite some time. The original image was created by artist Eric Proctor, who goes by the name “TsaoShin” online. Proctor created the image as part of a series of humorous cat illustrations, and it quickly became one of his most popular pieces.
It wasn’t until a few years later, however, that the pooping cat meme really took off. In 2017, Twitter user @catastropheVirus posted the image with the caption “when u hear ur owner say ‘who’s a good boy’ but u know it’s u.” The tweet quickly went viral, with thousands of people retweeting and sharing the image.
The Appeal of the Pooping Cat Meme
So why has the pooping cat meme become so popular? For one thing, it’s just plain funny. There’s something inherently hilarious about seeing a cat sitting on a toilet like a human, doing its business with a look of intense concentration on its face.
But beyond the humor, the pooping cat meme also taps into a larger cultural trend of internet memes that feature animals doing human-like things. From the famous “distracted boyfriend” meme to the “dramatic chipmunk,” these memes play into our fascination with anthropomorphizing animals and imagining what they might be thinking or feeling.
The Pooping Cat Meme Goes Mainstream
As the pooping cat meme continued to spread across the internet, it didn’t take long for it to make its way into the mainstream. In 2018, the meme was featured on an episode of The Ellen Show, where host Ellen DeGeneres joked about the image and even gave away a pooping cat mug to her audience.
Since then, the pooping cat meme has made appearances in countless other places, from social media feeds to t-shirts and merchandise. It’s become a beloved icon of internet humor, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
