The Origins of Clemson Memes
The first Clemson meme dates back to 2013, when a student posted a picture of Howard’s Rock with the caption “I want to touch it, but I don’t want to get arrested.” The meme quickly went viral and inspired other students to create their own memes. Soon, there were hundreds of memes circulating on social media, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down.
One of the most popular Clemson memes is “Clemsoning,” which refers to the team’s tendency to lose games they should win. The term was coined in 2011 after Clemson lost a game to Georgia Tech in a particularly embarrassing fashion. Since then, it has been used to describe any situation where Clemson fails to live up to expectations.
